MP MICK Clapham has called on the government to take action to reduce the number of deaths on the roads.
The Barnsley West and Penistone MP’s move follows reports that global road deaths are set to double within 10 years to two million a year.
He has signed a House of Commons' motion appealing for the government to make road safety one of its international development priorities.
The Make Roads Safe campaign has launched an online petition at www.makeroadssafe.org to encourage support for international action to reduce road deaths.
Make Roads Safe spokesman Grace Dawson said: “A child is killed in a road accident every three minutes and in the UK road crashes are still the biggest killer of teenagers."
