A petition has been started against the planned closure of Highfield Grange.
The Wombwell care home, which offers treatment to keep people out of hospital or return from hospital sooner, will close at the end of March if £544,000 in running costs cannot be found.
The council says it has its half of the funding but NHS Barnsley is not putting forward its half. The centre has 39 beds and employs 34 council staff as well as 38 NHS workers.
