POP star turned TV and radio presenter Sam Nixon will return to the Metrodome Arena tonight to reveal the winners of our quest to find the town’s inspirational young people.
It’s the presentation night for the Chronicle and Barnsley College’s Young Champions Awards and almost 500 will attend the glittering ceremony.
Some 50 individuals and group finalists as well as their families, friends and supporters will attend the event which will be culmination of our six month search to highlight the achievements of the town’s young people.
From young entrepeneurs to charity fundraisers, talented entertainers to dedicated community campaigners, there is a wide selection of awards.
Sam will be hosting the event after making his debut last year and he said he was excited to be returning to the Metrodome stage.
He added: “I’m really looking forward to hosting the awards and was honoured to be asked.
“Growing up in Barnsley and living here now, I’m very proud of the town we have and the people from it.
“I’m excited to see what the next generation have been up to and what achievements they have made.”

Young Apprentice
Young Fundraiser
Young Carer
Young Sportsperson
Young Inspiration
Young Conqueror
Young Community Hero
Young Entertainer
Young Entrepreneur
Special Achievement
Team Spirit
Young Team of the Year (Entertainment).
There will also be the Young Champion of 2025 award which will be the final award to be presented tonight.
Chronicle readers have helped choose the winners by taking part in a public vote.
Thousands of votes were cast in the online 48-hour vote which closed last night.
Chronicle editor Andrew Harrod said: “It is the first year that we have used a public vote to help choose the winners and it really helped ramp up the excitement as the big night drew closer.
“Like our Proud of Barnsley Awards which we’ll be launching soon Young Champions is a spectacular live event that has been months in the planning.”
