WOMBWELL Town’s FA Cup run came to an end this week but they continued their recovery in the NCEL Premier.

Town lost 3-1 at home to higher-league Stocksbridge Park Steels in the FA Cup first qualifying round on Saturday.

In front of 437 fans, Town conceded either side of half-time then Oliver Fearon pulled one back before Stocksbridge scored again late on.

Town then won 2-1 at home to Campion on Tuesday in the league.

Jordan Kershaw’s penalty and a Fearon strike put them 2-0 up before a late consolation goal.

Town lost their first three league games without scoring, following their promotion from Division One, but have now won their last two.

Penistone Church’s unbeaten start to the league season ended with two defeats this week.

They had not lost in six games before a 2-0 defeat at home to Frickley Athletic on Saturday.
