BARNSLEY Council is set to install 30 new speed cushions following a campaign by local residents for better road safety measures.
The Great Houghton Voluntary Residents’ Group have been meeting with the council in recent months regarding their concerns.
The group said they have collected extensive photographic evidence showing speed bumps lifting from the road surface, creating trip hazards and causing damage to vehicles.
And after meeting with representatives the council has confirmed that 30 new cushions will be installed in sets of twos and threes on High Street and Rotherham Road.
They will be bolted directly onto the road surface, offering a more durable and effective traffic calming measure.
Coun James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways, said: “We’ve listened carefully to what local residents and councillors have told us and are committed to making sure Barnsley’s roads remain safe for all road users.( “These improvements will make a real difference to road safety in Great Houghton, and I’m pleased we’re able to deliver a solution that reflects community needs.”
