BARNSLEY under 21s are due to host Worsbrough Bridge on Tuesday evening in the semi-final of the Sheffield FA Senior Cup.
The 7.30pm kick-off is set to take place on the showcase pitch next to the main Oakwell stadium.
Worsbrough have never reached the final before while Barnsley’s reserves were last in it during the Second World War.
The venue or date of the final have not yet been announced but it is usually in late April or early May at one of the professional football grounds in South Yorkshire – most often Hillsborough.
The Reds could play the likes of China under 23s international Xu Bin as well as players who have featured in their first team.
Bridge players such as Keelan Grist, Isaac Jeffreys and Finley Durkin were in the Barnsley academy while their captain Conor Glavin is the son of Reds legend Ronnie.
Worsbrough manager Lee Morris said: “Keelan is actually on holiday somewhere abroad but he’s flying back for the game.
“I don’t think his missus is happy.
“But they are all desperate to play in the game and do well.
“There are loads of Barnsley fans in the squad.
“We have 18 or 19-year-old players who have a chance to impress at their hometown club and maybe catch someone’s eye, you never know.
“Conor is my captain and his dad Ronnie watches all our games.
“It will be great for Ronnie to see his lad play against his old club.”
Barnsley academy manager Bobby Hassell believes it will be a good experience for his under 21s players.
He said: “We entered the cup last year and it was really good because you get to play against different styles of football to what you’re used to in the academy.
“It’s a great tie for us and for Worsbrough – a local derby.
“We’re not taking it lightly.
“We have to prepare properly and respect them.
“It’s their cup final, coming to Oakwell.
“We have to match their desire and motivation.
“We want to get to the final and hopefully win it.
“But it certainly won’t be an easy game.
“They’ve got a few players that we’ve had in our academy so it’ll be great to see them again.
“They have a lot of lads who have come through academy systems with a good background.
“They will be no mugs.”
For the first time in the cup run, there will be a ticket price for the game of £5 while under 16s go free.
Hassell said: “We’ve not charged in previous rounds.
“But Worsbrough have asked for it and they can take all the receipts.
“I think they’re going to help us on the night in terms of stewarding.
“It’s a good gesture from the club.”
Worsbrough are looking forward to testing themselves against a professional outfit.
Morris said: “It’s a massive task for us to go there and win.
“I watched them recently and did some homework on them.
“They had players like Georgie Gent and Charlie Lennon playing.
“They have had international footballers this season.
“They are strong, organised and move the ball well like you would expect from professional footballers.
“But they don’t come across teams like us every week.
“Not many will have played that much men’s football.
“We’ll both have different strengths and it’s just which one comes out on top.
“We’re not supposed to win it but we’re not supposed to be third in the league and we are.”
Meanwhile, Barnsley under 21s won 2-0 at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.
Leo Farrell and Lewis Gould netted while first teamers Vimal Yoganathan and Nathanael Ogbeta played.
Barnsley under 18s won 2-1 at Coventry City on Tuesday. Jack Woodcock and Tayo Dunne scored.
They are due to visit Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.
