UP TO £360,000 has been set aside to pay for flood protection works on 85 houses at Lundwood.
The houses in Lang Avenue will be fitted with protective devices such as door guards, air brick covers and 'non-return' valves to their waste water plumbing to prevent water coming into their homes.
The works are estimated at £4,250 per house, although these costs are expected to come down due to the number of properties involved.
The money earmarked includes £170,000 from the government via the Environment Agency, and £100,000 from the council's own housing budget for capital works, as well as an 'in kind' contribution of council staff's time.
Coun Roy Miller told the council's cabinet meeting this week he would be announcing a start date 'as soon as possible'.
