BARNSLEY Council has been given a national award for its work to promote community safety.
The authority beat 107 other towns and cities to win the annual honour for social inclusion.
Deputy council leader Jim Andrews said: “Bringing together the safer Neighbourhood teams and area boards is making a difference.
“Crime spots are identified and we are able to set targets and redirect resources and funding to introduce immediate improvements such as deploying community caretakers and ensure speedier graffiti removal from public buildings.”
The awards are made by the Association of Labour Councils to Labour controlled authorities.
