A HOYLAND publican aims to raise more than £1,000 to send an injured ex-soldier to a military memorial service in London.

Melvyn Sims who runs the Prospect Tavern with his wife Lynn is friends with ex-Grenadier guard Ray Chapman, 45. Ray was in the army for seven years and served in Iraq in the Gulf war.

In August, he was in a serious road accident and is now in a body brace and cannot work. Despite this, he is desperate to attend a big memorial church service for Gulf war veterans in London on February 26.
