PLANS are being formed to renovate the Pickering Cup only weeks after its rediscovery.
The football trophy was played for by local teams from around the Darton area more than 50 years ago.
Darton West Coun Linda Burgess, has been keen to see the cup used once again as a sporting award and to support sport and young people in the area.
She says Darton College is the target recipient and is very interested about taking it on.
The trophy, which dates back to 1933, resurfaced in 2007 when a distant relative of the Pickering family gave the cup to youth football manager Ian Shillito in the hope that it could be used to restart the historic football competition.
The last time it is known to have been played for is a far back as the 1960s, when more than 2,000 people would squeeze into Darton Park to watch the final each year.
It is then believed to have spent 20 years in Higham cricket club pavilion.
