ISOLATED old folks who may not see anyone at all over the festive period are being taken out for a slap-up meal - on Christmas Day.
It is just one of the good deeds being carried out by the local branch of the Royal Volunteering Service to help tackle and reduce loneliness and isolation of old people in Barnsley.
Inclusion officer, Michelle Hanley, of Carlton, and a team of about ten volunteers and four other inclusion officers, based at Priory Campus, have managed to sort out a free meal for about 20 old folks which is sure to put a smile on faces this Christmas.
Michelle said: “A restaurant owner in Barnsley, who wants to remain anonymous, AA Taxis and Barnsley Civic Trust have made this possible.
“The taxi service will pick people up on Christmas Day, they’ll have a full Christmas Day lunch and be given presents and a bit of entertainment and the taxi takes them home and it’s all free.”
As well as organising the meal, RVS volunteers have also delivered festive hampers to those who can’t get out this Christmas.
