RESIDENTS living in a town centre conservation area are appalled at the council’s decision to tear up a flagged pavement and resurface it with asphalt.
Homeowners on Victoria Road didn’t find out about the plans until last Thursday and workmen turned up on Monday to start ripping up the paving slabs.
The residents, along with Barnsley Civic Trust, wasted no time in complaining to Barnsley Council over the proposed finish which resulted in workmen being pulled off the job on Monday afternoon to allow the council to ‘review the decision’.
However, workmen were back on site by Tuesday to carry on as planned.
