BARNSLEY Council raked in more than £200,000 in littering, dog fouling and parking fines over the course of a year, the Chronicle has learned.

Five area councils entered into a contract with private enforcer Kingdom Security to bring in officers to catch those flouting the law and dish out fines in a bid to tackle littering, dog fouling and parking problems blighting the borough.

The enforcement crackdown came about after concern was raised by the Central Dearne, North, North East and South area councils.

For the 2015/16 financial year, the income generated from penalty charge notices and fixed penalty notices issued in the five area council areas for parking and environmental offences totalled £216,719.
