BARNSLEY Ladies played their part in a five-goal thriller with promotion rivals Huddersfield Town, but came out on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline. Previous meetings between the two teams have also been close affairs, usually with the one-goal separating the two. This latest encounter proved no different. It was Barnsley who dominated the first 25 minutes and only some fine saves from the Huddersfield ’keeper kept the Reds at bay. However, it was Huddersfield who scored against the run of play, when a cross from the right was met by the Town forward and although Rosemary Nash pulled off a tremendous save, the loose ball was duly slotted home. To their credit, Barnsley responded well and drew level courtesy of Jess Burton's free-kick, curled into the top right-hand corner from 20 yards. But Barnsley suffered a setback in the second period when the Terriers scored twice to lead 3-1. Barnsley refused to accept defeat and they replied almost immediately with a great goal. A combination of one-touch passing and good movement, which involved most of the team, was finished off by Nicki Wilde. Barnsley pushed on for the equaliser and dominated the last 15 minutes but were unable to find the net.
