COMMUNITY groups wishing to apply for funding from an energy provider have been urged to get their applications in by Tuesday.
EDF Energy has made sums from £500 to £10,000 available for groups, charities, schools and colleges to access thanks to its three-turbine project off Park Spring Road, Grimethorpe.
Local groups have already benefited in the past and the next round of funding will be decided after next week’s deadline.
A spokesman from EDF said: “Organisations currently working with or working to encourage and engage young volunteers with their work could be eligible to apply.( “Funding is for between £500 to £10,000 and, as the operators of wind farms across the country, our goal is to not only to generate electricity but to become a part of the communities that host our projects.
“We want to be part of the community around the wind farm and hope the benefit fund will make a real difference to local neighbourhoods.”
Groups within three kilometres of the wind farm are eligible to apply, so villages including Billingley, Cudworth, Darfield, Great Houghton, Grimethorpe, Little Houghton and Shafton are included.
