YOUTHS whose vandalism stopped buses running in Darfield have had their MiCards taken away following a police investigation.
In September, Stagecoach bosses temporarily suspended services running in the area after dark following numerous acts of vandalism including smashed windows.
At a PACT meeting on Tuesday, South Yorkshire Police confirmed they have identified those responsible for the damage.
Antisocial behaviour letters have been issued and the youths will have their MiCards revoked.
Coun Kevin Osborne, who represents the Darfield ward, said that Barnsley Council’s free travel for under-18s is a privilege, not a licence for antisocial behaviour.
He added: “We will not allow the actions of a small minority to disrupt services relied upon by many.
“By working with the police and transport providers, we are taking firm steps to ensure buses remain safe and accessible for everyone in Barnsley.
“Darfield councillors continue to stand alongside residents, transport partners, and the police in tackling antisocial behaviour and safeguarding community services.”
